Quality Scores

Ads are ranked by quality score multiplied by bid. Higher-quality ads can win even with lower bids, rewarding relevance.

Ad Groups

Negative Keywords

Exclude irrelevant search terms so ads don't appear for wrong queries. Improves advertiser ROI and user experience.

Match Types

Exact match, phrase match, and broad match. Advertisers control how closely search queries must match their keywords.

Search Query Reports

See exactly what users searched for, which ads appeared, and performance at the query level. Full transparency.

Match Types

Three Match Types, Total Control

Advertisers choose how closely search queries must match their keywords.

Type Keyword Matches Won't Match
Exact [running shoes] "running shoes" "buy running shoes"
Phrase "running shoes" "best running shoes" "shoes for running"
Broad running shoes "jogging sneakers" "dress shoes"

Exact match is the most restrictive. Broad match captures the widest audience. Use negative keywords to exclude unwanted queries.

Quality score measures how relevant an ad is to a search query. It factors in click-through rate, ad relevance, and landing page experience. Higher quality scores let advertisers win auctions with lower bids, rewarding good ads.
